Notes on the initial installation and setup of QC6.1

1- Go here and download the v6.1 installer: http://www.qcharts.com/download/

2- Run the installer and accept the defaults unless you have a specific reason for not doing so.

3- Please note - if you have a QCharts v5.x icon (or shortcut) on your desktop, installing v6.x will remove that icon. This does not uninstall the version 5.x software. If you want to prevent this from happening, the rename the desktop shortcut you have for QCharts. Maybe rename it to "QC 5.1" instead of "QCharts". This renaming will prevent the 6.x installer from deleting the shortcut icon. But if you did have your icon deleted, you can put another icon on your desktop to point back to version 5.x - after you're done installing v6.x.

4- Once you've got v6.x installed, go ahead and run it and log on to QCharts. Please always (not just on this initial installation - always) make sure you have the option checked to start to a blank workspace:

Reason being for starting with a blank workspace - the QCharts application has a lot to do on startup. Let it do it. Don't add to its' load by loading your workspace as it is starting up. Patience young Jedi. You'll open your workspace soon enough.

5- If you are running multi-monitors, then v6 will come up after the initial install as locked to monitor #1. You will need to unlock it and stretch it across all of your screens.
To unlock it:
a- find the buttons in the upper RH corner of the QCharts application. The middle button will be maximized after you have just installed v6.x:

b- Click the middle button one time to take it to its un-maximized state:

Then, once you have "un"maximized the button, you need to manually drag the frame of the QCharts application over your multiple monitors as you like it. Now's a great time to watch movie #9  here.

6- Now...got your basic application stretched over all of your monitors? Good. Now go open up your workspace. Click "File" then "Open workspace". Then navigate in the "Open" dialog box that comes up to where your workspaces are stored. It will, by default, open to the "workspaces" folder inside of the QCharts 6.x installation. Your workspaces will likely be stored in another folder - you need to know where that is. Once you find the workspace you want to open, double click it and it'll open.

7- Now that your v5.x workspace is open inside of your newly installed v6.x environment, you need to immediately do a very important thing. What is that? You need to click "File" then "Save Workspace As". And in that "Save As" box, you need to add something to the filename - I've been adding a v6 to mine....so that it is a different filename that your version 5.x file.

Why?

Because we want to keep these workspaces separate and right now, we can run both v5 and v6. So we need to initially open our v5 workspaces in the v6 environment and immediately "Save As" them and add something to the filename so that it is different.

8- Once you've renamed your workspace to separate it from your v5 workspaces - you're good to go to begin running QCharts version 6.x.
